What does a deck actually cost?
Typical deck pricing runs $85–$125 per square foot. Those are the real reference numbers for having a professional team build you a new deck — multiply by the size you have in mind and you'll be close. A 16×20 deck (320 sq ft total, including steps) lands somewhere around $27,000–$40,000; smaller builds start around $15,000.
Luxury finishes go beyond that. Top-of-the-line PVC decking and vertical cable railing run $150 per square foot and up.
